PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed to extract the nutrient-rich plasma from the red blood cells, and then injected into the scalp.
PRP contains the body’s own highly concentrated growth factors. Injecting this plasma into the scalp can stimulate follicles for better hair growth by providing nutrients and increasing blood supply. PRP can also increase thickness and density of the hair, and decrease hair shedding to slow down or help prevent further loss.
PRP therapy can be done on its own or in combination with other treatment options, including the NeoGraft® procedure! When used during a hair transplant procedure, PRP helps with better healing post-operatively, higher retention (success) of transplanted follicles, faster hair regrowth, and slowing down of further loss throughout the scalp around the areas that were transplanted. Grafts can also be “bathed” in PRP solution after harvesting and before implanting, further promoting graft healthiness. It is the ultimate treatment for hair loss.
PRP for hair restoration is recommended initially as a series of three or four sessions, with maintenance sessions preformed once or twice a year going forward to maintain full benefits.
Everyone knows the name HydraFacial™ for facial health and skin concerns, but did you know that they now have an option that is specifically targeted towards scalp and hair health as well?
HydraFacial™ Keravive™ promotes scalp and hair health by deeply cleansing the scalp and hair follicles, ridding them of excess dirt, oil, and impurities, then infusing the scalp and follicles with growth factors and skin proteins to promote healthier, fuller looking hair. There is also a take-home spray treatment that delivers daily hydration and nourishment for a full 30 days after each treatment.
Typically, HydraFacial™ Keravive™ is done in a series of three treatments on its own, but we also recommend this as a single treatment to all patients as the first step in their hair care journey if they are going to partake in other treatments as well. We call it the "prep step", as the treatment not only provides its own benefits but also gives an exceptionally clean, healthy foundation for the scalp for whatever treatment options they are going to embark on.
